She shook her head. "Only on television." She said patiently. "But I have been asked to perform once or twice but declined. It isn't the greatest to be singing in that atmosphere."

He nodded. "I can understand that. So, you ever had a boyfriend?"

She looked at him. "The stage tabloids have all the news about this. Imagined romances with co-stars who were really gay mostly is what they report. Under the sea, no, no one would come near me." Christine's stomach churned at the question. She was thinking he only liked her because he saw her body.

"Seriously? Why not?" Looking at her he saw nothing wrong, and talking to her only revealed more to love.

Christine looked at him. "I am an unnatural being, even in my world. Normally it is a male human and a mermaid....My father is a merman while my mother was human." She turned away. "My coloring is considered unlucky. And no merman wants to be with someone who is a freak." She said.

He raised an eyebrow. "Well then, maybe you should look for a human. I certainly don't care about all that, even now that I know about it."

Christine looked at him. "I have, but...None of them ever been right for me." She said. "I never felt at peace in the sea. And then when I came on land. I thought it would be different. I don't feel at peace there." She told him. "Besides, I don't ever know if a human likes me for me...or if he likes me because he hears a mermaid's call."

He pulled a satellite phone from a pouch and flipped it open. "Nope, no calls."

She gave another musical laugh. "Not that type of call." She said. "It's one that plays in your head. Like a familiar tune that you don't remember the words to and it keeps calling. Sometimes sailors will jump to their deaths into the sea because they can't swim and the song leads them to the mermaid. If a mermaid is on land men, or women if it's a merman, would forget everyday dangers like oncoming traffic." Christine's eyes looked away. "The merpeople usually don't really know that their song is playing. Which is the difference between merpeople and sirens. Sirens can control their songs that draw people at to their death."

"Well, the only song I've got running through my head is This Means War, by Avenged Sevenfold," he said, putting away the phone. "Or maybe I heard your song from the moment I was born, and that's why I'm a swimmer."

Christine gave a shrug. "Probably not, that type of things are really rare." She said. Slowly she sat up seeing something in the distance. It was a red light that flashed and appeared to get closer. Her heart began to pound. One boat is another thing. But another was seriously wrong. Her head turned to him. As she said this place was private and the field around it would lead boats astray because it was plotted as a bunch of treacherous rocks. Only those who knew it existed could reveal what it actually was. Therefore only two assumptions could be made. One, a merperson close to her father revealed the island's location to this group and possibly a second. Or two, if someone from this group called another to come in.

Nick keyed his throat mic. "Contact, tango. Alpha bravo."
Within a couple minutes, Cherry showed up with two MP7s and gave one to Nasty. They both swam out to the rock and waited, leaning against the inshore side. All the people on the boat would see was the mermaid on the shore.

Christine looked at them and frowned not knowing what they were doing. Carefully she went from the score and began to swim towards them. Before she did anything, a chained net flew out and pulled her to the boat. She began to fight against the net, her tail flashing in the moonlight.

Something struck the boat, nearly blowing it in half, followed by the report of the Ragnaroc cannon. It was, of course, a heavy sniper round, and killed two men by direct impact, a third with shrapnel. Cherry and Nasty spun around the rock, double-tapping the men on the bow of the boat, who had the net, then easily scaled the gunwales. The boat was, after all, sinking. It took a few moments, but Nick managed to release the net while Cherry scoured the boat for any more poachers.

"The mermaid is ours!" One of the seamen said, still being alive, for a small bit. "You have no business being her."
Christine looked up at Nick. "Maybe you should have kept the comb. I'm indebted to you twice."
