The people at each settlement were excited about Duraine's fall, since most of them were living in extreme poverty because of how he milked them dry of their money and resources. They were only eager to help in any way that they can.
Lilah was extremely excited to see that her people still held a faith in her. They were hesitant at first, but when she described Marcus and the situation in which they needed their assistance, they were instantly ready to help.

He smiled frequently on his way through all the places, making note of what he needed to send out. Duraine castle would be rationing this winter, unless some trade could be set up.
About a day later, he returned to the castle at about the same time as Messenger.

Lilah arrived in the afternoon, coming from the East with Jonathan on the back of Tremor, riding behind her. She had gone out of her way to go and retrieve him, so he had less running. She knew that the people would not have been able to feed him, so running without nutrients would have harmed him.
She rode up and dismounted, helping Jonathan down, before she led Tremor into the stables.

Marcus turned at the sound of a servant approaching. "Dinner is ready."
"Good. Alert the cooks that we need to modify the menus a bit."
The servant bowed and headed back inside, closely followed by Marcus.

Lilah walked through the castle, taking the short ways to her chambers. Jonathan made his ways to his quarters, exhausted, and was going to sleep. Lilah promised to give him some dinner when he woke. She went to her chambers, changing clothes and slipping from her older gown that she'd been riding in to a nicer one for dinner.
She pulled her hair up off her shoulders as well, brushing the knots out of it.

Once everyone was gathered, Marcus looked toward an adviser. "So what was this war Duraine spoke of, and would I still have cause to worry?"

The advisor, who was fairly old and wise with his age, looked upon Marcus and nodded his head lightly. "Tis merely a battle of land, milord. And if I were you, worrying would definitely be present. For the other lords will look upon you as strong for fighting off and defeating Duraine, but you now pose threat to their conquests. You see, Duraine holds a very advantageous position on his land: the best fields for crops, and the perfect location for trades. His land is strongly coveted."
Lilah gazed towards the man as he seemed to finish, and she stiffened. "They also yearn for this castle," she commented, adding on as she gazed towards Marcus. "This castle is one of the sturdiest and has the most recent additions as well as the most space. They have coveted it since it was built in the early time of Duraine's family line," she explained, waving a hand lightly. "There have been rumors of them trying to court myself, as well," she brought out, to much murmuring, since almost everyone believed that the lady had been oblivious to the rumors about her.
"So, Sir Marcus," she said, looking at him with a quaint smile on her lips, and a cant of her head. "It is up to you, I suppose, if you would like to worry."

He chuckled. "No worry. I saw one of the patrols on my way back in, and they had a runner with them. I recognized the horse. We should have plenty of warning if anybody gets past the hidden arrows." He thought for a moment, then smiled. "As for courting you, milady, I would be honored if you would accept my offer."

The elder man laughed, glad to actually feel secure within the walls of the castle for the first time. Then, he gazed towards Lilah, as did most of the other members there, and she felt her neck start to flush, as well as her cheeks and the tips of her ears. She looked down before gazing back towards Marcus, a small smile on her lips, an eyebrow raised. "An offer of courting? I hardly know you, milord," she mentioned, though she canted her head to the side. She pondered, knowing that if he at least took a while with his courtship, she would get to know him. Unlike her marriage to Duraine without knowing who he was. She smiled a bit brighter, but kept her composure. "I shall accept that offer," she murmured, causing the others to murmur, but they were smiling.

He nodded, then looked at the servants. "Have you eaten?"

The servants looked bewildered, and shook their heads. "No, milord," they responded quietly.

"The servants do the labor, from now on they eat first." With that, he stood and offered his place to one of the servers.

The servants looked at him, shocked, and Lilah stood as well. "I am not hungry. Please, sit," she said, letting them take her seat as well. They all sat and she smiled, bowing her head slightly. "I think I'll take a walk," she murmured, heading out the back, into her garden, where she began to hum and softly touch her growing flowers.

He glanced around as various advisors began standing and offering their seats to servants. Smirking, Marcus headed out, also to the garden, where he simply wandered and smelled.

Lilah stopped at the base of a fairly large, knotted and twisted tree. There were marks upon the trunk, but it was still growing strong. She touched along one of the thicker branches, smiling as she felt extremely content.
