Kijin ghosted through the forest in the night. His dark coat flowing along behind him. A branch snaps nearby and alerts him. In a moment of complete skill he executes a backwards combat roll and dodges the ax that had been meant for his head. The man wielding the ax smiles "lookie 'ere it's one of those Tefin. This on looks like that escaped slave kitira put a bounty on." Another man steps forward "he does. Hey tell you what we will split the gold with whoever can catch him." Kijin slides back on his heel while whipping his hands forwards. In a beautifully done floureshing motion he releases six shuriken at six of the ten men who had emerged from the trees. Another man emerges behind him and gets a good slash in on Kijins arm. The man dances around to stare at Kijin who is bleeding from his new wound.
The man smiles "its a shame. You almost made it to Yowen and thus safety."
The rest of the men begin surrounding Kijin. The ones who were hit with the shuriken start to feel wrong in some way. They suddenly drop to the ground wether dead or just unconscious nobody knows.

A man's voice sounded from outside the group. "He did make it to Yowen. I don't blame you for being off a bit. Easy to lose the border in the forest between watchtowers."
The men lost focus on him as they looked around frantically. A female voice came from the other side. "Easy to lose a Line Ranger in the forest, too."
Then a third voice, from the foliage overhead. This one spoke with clipped consonants. A Falkin. "But this one is injured. Medic!"
A Bush rustled from the way he'd come, and a younger voice said, "Besides, slaving is a crime here, but you already know that."
"Probie, you're over the border," clipped the Falkin.
"Oops." The bush rustled again, then there was silence.
For about half a second.
Ruby was not trying to be quiet as she approached. That wasn't her job. Unlike the other Line Rangers, who kept their insignia hidden under camouflage cloaks, hers was emblazoned on a tunic that spread it over the chest of her full plate. The stitched heart of her order was engraved into her pauldrons. She carried no weapons, but two reinforced tower shields and heavy plate knuckles on her fingerless gloves.

The swordsman sheaths his longsword. Momentarily revealing his fugitive recovery sigil. His black cloak billowing out behind him. "What about the fact he just killed 6 men." He seems intently focused on Kijin.
Kijin slowly brings his hand from his sword sheathed at his hip. His ears twitch as he eyes the medic moving towards him. The Tefin never leaves his ready stance however. His coat open enough to reveal his impressive collection of Kuni and other weapons.
The man wielding the axe takes a place at the swordsmans shoulder.

"Self defense," the first voice said, as Ruby pushed through to slam her shields down on either side. She held up one hand, a glow emanating from it. The healing light. Stoneborn were known for it, but it wasn't common to the race. "If you don't mind." She reached out to pinch the wound shut with one hand, sealing it with the other. "Don't exert those muscles for a couple days." The wound was closed, but there was still pressure. Ruby straightened, looking around, and now her voice echoed like a rockslide. "You are in violation of sovereign Yowen territory. Leave now, or you will be taken prisoner."

Kijin winces ad she uses healing light. His wound could heal faster but not much faster.
The swordsman turns and starts walking away. Over his shoulder he talks at Kijin. "You may have gotten away today Kijin, but we both know how far your owner's reach truly stretches." He crosses the border and turns to look across it with his blade implanted in the ground.
The rest of the men leave while dragging their compatriots back across the border. The man who uses the axe backs up from the border hefting it to his shoulder.
Kijin watches them leave with an intent expression. When the swordsman finally vanishes from sight he backs up to a tree and slumps against it. Finally he talks to the group revealing a rather pretty voice. "Sorry that I have been a burden to you. I had hoped to cross the boarder with little issue before moving on to Danmara across the ocean." His movements are very tired and he seems haunted by something.

Ruby picked up her shields and started humming. A moment later, dirt fell away from the embedding spikes, leaving them spotless. This was a rare sight indeed. Stoneborn earthsong. Not true earth elemental magic, but as close as the race could get. They didn't control the earth and stone, they communicated with it and it "chose" to comply. Or didn't.
The others came out. A human, foxen, and a very young demon. The Falkin dropped on silent green-dyed wings to the forest floor. The human, owner of the first voice, spoke. "Captain Murdock. Our jurisdiction ends 200 yards from the border, but we can get you a hot meal and a night's rest at our post, point you in the right direction."

Kijin nods before standing up. His ears twitch as he feels eyes on him. Looking the way of the border he shivers before turning to the group. "I would like that. I just cant go back there." He looks at the Foxen "huh odd to find a Foxen as a border guard. Arent you guys supposed to be terrifying assassins."
Meanwhile from a hidden position a scout watches the group closely.

Alice shrugged, twitching her tails, of which she had two. Eyes centered on Kijin she flicked a hand, and a poisoned needle flew into the neck of the otherwise unseen scout. "It happens sometimes," she said nonchalantly, but a smirk belied her amusement.
"This is Alice," Murdock explained, "my wife and second-in-command."
The falkin chuckled softly.

Kijin nods his eyes track the dart for a second before focusing back on the group. "I should probably get away from this area. I was one of Katira's favorites. When she learns I slipped the collar..." He doesnt finish but shivers instead. Stories of Katira's cruelty are far reaching. Kijin seems tired and his cheek has a line of dried blood on it. To an average person Kijin appeares to be weakened. However the discerning eye can pick out the careful caution of a well trained assassin. He looks at ruby "thank you for helping me."
The scout in the trees stumbles back across the border. Dropping to his knee.

Alice grimaces. "Made the poison too weak again."
Murdoch lunged into the bushes, kicking the scout's knees so when he fell dead his feet were on the Yowen side. He then returned.
"This is my scout, Tyter," he said, indicating the Falkin, who bowed slightly before taking off.
"He'll warn us of any approach, if you'll follow us."
They led him in silence along the border until they got to the main road crossing that border. It wasn't far away. The guard post was two enormous sequoia with bridges strung between them. Tyter landed on one of the bridges as Murdoch approached the left tree. He stroked it, and a door opened into a large, cozy, fire lit room.

Kijin warily enters the room. He notices a Foxen watching him from a corner. Her smile is darkly familiar but other than that it appears to be a common room. Two wolf shifters are talking at a nearby table. One is blond with wolf ears of the same color. The other is Black haired. Their wolf ears twitch as Kijin shuffles his feet. The blond wolf shifter is speaking currently. "Something odd happened on the Shinos border today. Appearently a Catcher jumped the border after an escaping slave cut his collar. They think it was Alluin, without him the warlord in that area should slow down on the skirmishes." Kijins face betrays his surprise as he hears his brothers name.

There was a kitchen on one side, living and dining area on the other. A trap door in the ceiling with a ladder leading to it obviously led to the bridges.
Alice spoke. "Dorms are in the other tree. Up the ladder, across the bridge. Murdoch has a very unpleasant report to make. He hates this part."
As she spoke, Probie dejectedly climbed the ladder, and Murdoch walked to a pedestal in the center of the room. As he approached, a crystal orb rose from the stand. "Border Command." The orb floated empty for a moment before swirling to reveal a face. "Go ahead, Captain."
"Rescued an indentured catcher ten minutes South. Interrupted the pursuit, one freelance catcher dead on our side. But Jolie broke protocol in presence of foreigners. Recommend he return to Kijic North post."
"It shall happen. Do you want more dossiers?"
"No, I," Murdoch glanced toward Kijin, "have someone in mind."
"The indentured catcher. Are they interested?"
Murdoch turned fully toward Kijin, now, and the face swiveled as well.

Kijin thinks for a second "it would probably be best to stay within Yowen. If I try to leave I have no doubt a reclaimer would try to snatch me." He watches the duo intently. His Green eyes glowing in the firelight. After giving his answer he turns to Alice "where will I be bedding down for the night?" He askes questioningly. His exhaustion appearent.

She points to the ladder. "This way." She led the way, exiting onto the lower bridge. There was no door visible behind them and none on the other side. She led him across and showed where to strike the trunk, and opened a door to a room with a ladder down and a couple occupied bunks.
"Most of us sleep downstairs. These bunks are reserved for Guards on the next shift."

Kijin nods to her "so I bed down in here tonight?" He catches sight of the Foxen from earlier. She has taken a bunk and seems to be asleep.
Meanwhile at Kitira's fortress. She stands observing a fight between her Noble slave and a soldier. A soldier moves up to her. "Kijin made it over the border." Kitira seems to grow angry "I want him retrieved now. Get every reclaimer possible to go after him." She strolls off.
