In a parallel history even to the books, two champions from one district was granted, and held. Katniss did not incite an uprising, but inspired the underdogs. In the 75th hunger games, 1 and 2 lost again, this time to twelve year old fraternal twins from district 8. Noticing a trend, they singled out one of their cadets who seemed to abhor weapons. If anyone from district 2 could be an underdog, it was him. But to up the ante, they needed a competitor even less known; they travelled through a portal, searching for a girl wonder from parts unknown. Perhaps in time, she will tell her story, but for now, I am the boy they chose. I'm Mako, named for the shark that's probably swimming through my grandfather's old house right now. I am a volunteer tribute.
Mako stood at the terminal, waiting for the portal jumper to arrive with his fellow tribute.

-Kyra Silvermoon was furious. At herself and her captors, she had been out into town, getting a coffee of all things, when strange men grabbed her and threw her in the back of a van. She had desperately tried to escape but of course it didn't work and they ended up knocking her out. Now she was being escorted through something called a Portal, she looked around, clearly scared as they passed through it. Her makeup that covered her Mark had been wiped away so the blue outline of the Crescent Moon stood out against her pale skin.-
"Look if this is about money I'm sure my school will give it to you!"
-She says to the Peacekeepers escorting her, but they ignored her entirely. She froze as she saw Mako, and emidiately became suspicious.-

Mako watched the portal jumper as it landed. Before the door opened, he got a glimpse of the girl, and smiled. It was a friendly smile, of a person waiting to meet a new friend. It was also because she had not been placed in a cage, which he had fully expected. The door opened, the peacekeepers escorted her out, and he glided forward to greet her, much to the chagrin of the quarantine doctor. "Mako Genoa," he said, extending a hand, "Welcome to Newport."

-She scowls at Mako, her eyes flashing with defiance and hostility, she wasn't about to trust anyone here in this weird place.-
"Look I don't care who you are. I want to go home!"
-She snaps, her eyes darted side to side, wondering if she could somehow make a run for it, although she doubted she could.-

He raised an eyebrow, glancing at one of the peacekeepers.
"Pretty close, actually. Hard to tell, without the coastline flooded, but it was probably still District 2, eastern, maybe."
Mako nodded, looking back at her. "Home is through a portal that's really unreliable on our end, so you're stuck here, at least for a while." He glanced back at the governor, then leaned close and murmured, "I'm sorry."
The doctor stepped forward. "Enough. We need to do a physical."

-She didn't like this at all. Being a vampire fledgling she had to be around adult Vampires or her body would eventually reject the Change and she would die. She tried to calculate how much time she had, maybe in this world she would live longer, so she guessed maybe 3 or 4 months at the most. Maybe 5 if she was lucky. She knew if she'd continue being difficult they might drug her again so she nods sullenly, looking down.-
"If I can't go home tell me this. Why did you bring me here?"
-She asks.-

Another man joined them as they headed to the only building inside the wall. "To die, most likely. Unless you're better than most and really lucky... And people like you... Mostly if people like you. Is there anything you're good at?"
"This is Stark. He's our mentor for the games."

-She blinks at her mentor and scowls. It really didn't matter if she died in this..Hunger Game. Unless she could get back to her school, she would die anyways.-
"I'm a Vampire Fledgling. I don't know if you even have Vampires here."
-She says and wipes off the little cover make up that remained with the back of her hand, showing the sapphire crescent moon outline.-
"I am gifted. Although I don't know if it will do much good here. I can transform into any wild cat at will."

Stark looked surprised, but gathered himself quickly. "Then perhaps you will be able to keep up with Mako. He's a trousant and speedfighter."
Mako raised an eyebrow. "Vampires. Top predators like sharks. You don't look like a top predator."
The physical went quickly, and they boarded the train for Capitol. Stark explained the games to Lyra.

"I'm not a full vampire yet. I'm still a fledgling."
-She says once they were on the train, she leans back and crossed her legs. Looking defiant but calm.-
"A Change takes about 4 years. If their bodies don't reject the Change first that is, if that happens the Fledgling dies. It happens about 1 in 10."
-She looks out the window.-
"Fledglings don't normally drink blood until their 4th year. When the Change is complete their crescent moon Mark fills in and expands. No two full Marks are the same."
-She looks at her Mentor with a grim smile.-
"I should add that all Fledglings needs to be around adult Marked Vampires, if not their bodies quickly rejects the Change. So I guess you picked the wrong candidate for your sick and twisted game."

"Or the perfect one. If you have no chance to live, you won't fear to die."
"That's cold," Mako said. "But it's true. You have already accepted you might die, and we will try to get you home. That acceptance makes it that much more likely that you will live long long enough for it."

-She glares at them, she knew she they had a point but she still didn't like it.-
"What happens if I do win this? Will I get to go home?"
-She asks, crossing her arms over her chest.-

"We do our best to get you home, or at least to some time with marked vampires," Mako said.
Stark looked at them both. "You can't guarantee that."
"Well I'll do my best."
Stark rolled his eyes. "They're going to love you."

"Well if my body does reject the Change in the arena at least it should entertain the viewers."
-She says with a sigh, looking out the window again.-
"I saw it happen to a girl once in my class at House Of Night..Thats the school for Fledglings.. What happens is they start coughing up blood and soon the blood comes out of the eyes, ears and nose..Its quick so the Fledgling doesn't suffer for very long."
-She seemed to be reassuring herself more than anything.-
"But I'd rather die from that than by the hands of some stranger."

"Then I won't let you die," Mako said with a small smile.
"I would love to see that."
A couple hours later, they arrived in Capitol. After being shown to their suite, they were introduced to their wardrobe attendants... Mako's mother and father, who presented them with shimmering sharkskin outfits.
