Then the tree seemed to shimmer, and a figure stepped out of it. It was a dryad. The figure turned its back to her and bowed as Marcus stepped around the tree. "And this is why they responded to your emotions. Every tree in this garden has a spirit. In a few months, the very trees of this land will provide us with an army. I need only touch them to wake them." He looked at the dryad, an stout, worn-looking man.
"Oak, this is the lady of this garden, Lilah."
The dryad nodded serenely. "I know this, milord. Welcome." He bowed slightly to Lilah, then stepped back into the tree.

Lilah stepped back, a hand over her chest, her eyes wide in shock. "Oh! Hello," she said, confusion on her features as she looked towards Marcus. Then, she nodded slowly, still trying to wrap her mind around this. After the dryad stepped back into the tree, Lilah turned back towards Marcus with a raised eyebrow. "I never knew that creatures lived within my trees..." she murmured, rubbing her head slightly, feeling a headache coming on. The aching feeling caused a rock to shift slightly towards her on the ground, but so she could not notice.
"Though, no reason to complain."

"That was not a creature living within the tree, that was the tree. If the dryad were to be killed, the tree would wither. If the tree were to be cut down, even if the dryad were away from the tree, the dryad would die instantly, after feeling every blow of the axe."

"So... they are the trees... Oh my goodness," she comprehended, smiling as she looked towards the trees, approaching a young one and stroking the branches softly for a moment before letting her hand fall down to her side again. "I never could have imagined," she said quietly, looking back towards Marcus.

He nodded. "They take the same time to reach adulthood as the tree does. If the tree can bear fruit, then the dryad is adult." He smiled and walked over to the young tree, touching it. The tree shimmered, and a young man stepped out, stretching, before bowing and stepping back inside.

"Do they only appear when you touch them?" she questioned softly, looking at it in wonder. Her grey eyes were bright, wide, but the smile on her face was content and happy. Her freckled face sparkled slightly in the dimming sunlight as she looked back over towards him.

He shook his head. "At night, they leave their trees to tend the other plants. During attacks, they will leave their trees to help defend. As long as the tree stands, a dryad cannot be harmed by any weapon made by man."

"Oh... and I thought I naturally had a green thumb of sorts," she joked, looking down towards her flowers. Though she was looking at them differently this time, her mind working and racing around. She looked back towards him after a few moments of silence and she laughed slightly, sheepishly, wringing her long fingers together. "My apologies. I didn't mean to become lost in my thoughts."

"You do have a green thumb. They have never left their trees before today."
((Have you seen my new character?))

"Oh... well, that makes me glad. I never knew any escape like my gardens," she murmured, smiling and looking around at their growth.
((Yes, I have. Did you have an idea of sorts?))

((Not really.))
Marcus smiled and continued walking around the garden, brushing trees as he went. Each one seemed to come to life or wake up as he did.

((Okay.))
Lilah walked along with him, fascinated by his 'power'. She knew that she was strange, had some kind of ability, but she had no idea how to explain it nor what it was. She didn't bother with it.

The next morning at breakfast, which was much simpler (servants' fare, as a lot of the pantry was being shipped back out to the people who produced it) he was dressed in silver cloth garments rather than the usual armor.

Lilah didn't eat much of the breakfast, anyhow. She wasn't one to eat much in the morning. She wore a simple, light blue dress, with her curly locks down for once, framing her face. She walked easily, taking her seat to eat breakfast, but only really picked at it.

He watched her and raised an eyebrow. When he was finished he headed to the throne room. Already, two farmers had figured out that this lord was decent, and had arrived at the castle with a dispute. Marcus summoned them to the throne room to hear their problem.
((Can you play them?))
